If you've ever browsed industrial pendant lights and come away confused, you're not alone. You find a lovely burgundy metal shade for £14.99, add it to your basket, and then realise it doesn't come with anything to hang it from. Or you buy a pendant kit, it arrives, and it's a cable with a bulb holder on the end and nothing else.
This isn't a mistake, and it isn't a con. It's how most of the industrial lighting market works, and once you understand why, it actually gives you far more control over how your kitchen or dining room ends up looking.

Part one: the fitting
The fitting is the working bit. It's a length of cable, a ceiling rose or mounting plate, and a lamp holder at the bottom that the bulb screws into.
Almost everything in the range uses an E27 holder, which is the large screw fitting you'll recognise from standard bulbs. A few shades also accept B22, the bayonet type with two pins. Cables tend to run around 95cm on the PVC sets, with fabric-covered twisted versions going up to about 2 metres.
Colour matters more than you'd think here, because the cable and holder are visible. A chrome holder on a white ceiling reads as clean and modern. A rustic red or navy holder with the cable left slightly slack reads as workshop or loft. Grey and French gold sit somewhere in between. Part two: the shade
The shade is the decorative half, and this is where you can change the whole feel of a room for under twenty quid.
Metal dome and cone shades are the classic industrial look. Sizes in the range run from about 18cm across up to 36cm, in finishes like burgundy, navy, gloss yellow, chrome, brushed brass and copper speckle. There are also wire cage shades at roughly 20cm, which throw a patterned shadow across the ceiling and suit rooms where you want texture rather than a solid block of colour. Rattan and wicker shades are in there too if industrial isn't quite your thing but the fitting system still is.
Most shades are described as "easy fit". That phrase gets used loosely across the lighting industry, so it's worth being precise: it means the shade has a wide collar that clamps around the bulb holder itself, usually with a reducer plate included so it works on more than one holder size. No wiring, no tools. You slot it on.
Working out the drop
The single most common mistake with pendants is hanging them too high.
Over a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, aim for the bottom of the shade sitting roughly 75 to 90cm above the worktop. That sounds low written down and it looks right in practice, because you want the light landing on the surface rather than spreading thinly across the whole room.
Over a dining table, go a bit higher, around 75 to 85cm above the tabletop, so people sitting opposite each other can still make eye contact under it. In a hallway or above a stairwell, the rule changes entirely and you're just trying to keep at least 2.1 metres of clear headroom below.
Cable length is adjustable on most of the LEDSone fittings, so you can shorten the drop at install. If you need to go the other way and hang something lower, decorative chain extenders are sold separately in 90cm and 1 metre lengths, in finishes like rose gold, yellow brass and vintage green, typically rated to around 5kg.
Matching shade size to the space
A 36cm shade over a small breakfast bar will dominate. An 18cm shade over a six-seater dining table will look apologetic.
As a rough guide, a single pendant over a dining table wants to be about a third of the table's width. Over an island, two or three smaller shades spaced evenly usually beat one large one, both for light spread and for looks. In a bedroom or a snug corner, 18 to 26cm is plenty.
Clusters and multi-packs
If you'd rather not piece it together yourself, the range includes ready-made three-head cluster pendants where the fittings and shades come as one unit. Cone shapes in chrome or brushed brass, diamond wire cages, rattan domes. These sit in the £29.99 to £43.99 bracket and land on a single ceiling point, which makes them a sensible option if you've got one existing rose and no appetite for rewiring.
At the other end, fittings come in packs of two, three, six and ten. The ten-packs are aimed at people doing a whole run over a long island or kitting out a café, shop or studio, and the per-unit price drops noticeably compared to buying singles.
A note on wiring
Swapping a shade is a job anyone can do. Installing a new pendant fitting means working at the ceiling rose, and if you're at all unsure, get a qualified electrician in. Anything involving new circuits or bathroom zones needs one anyway under UK building regulations. Always isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before you start, not just at the wall switch.
Bulbs are almost always sold separately with pendant fittings. Filament-style LED bulbs suit the industrial look particularly well and use a fraction of the power of the vintage incandescents they're imitating. Check the maximum wattage on the fitting before you buy, and if you want to dim, make sure both the bulb and your switch are dimmable.
