What is a dog run?
A dog run is a fenced area where your dog can spend time outside safely. It gives them room to move, sniff about and get some fresh air while you work in the garden, have visitors round, or need to keep them away from the lawn or flower beds. A run built from panels is different from a fixed fence. You can move it, change its shape, or take it down if you move house.
Example run sizes
Here are a few common layouts to help you plan. Every run needs one door panel, so swap one of the panels listed below for its door version.
2m x 1m run. Use two 2m panels and two 1m panels. This is a good size for puppies, small breeds or short spells outside.
2m x 2m run. Use four 2m panels. This gives one medium or large dog enough room to move around comfortably.
3m x 2m run. Use four 1.5m panels and two 2m panels. It works well for a large dog or two smaller dogs.
4m x 2m run. Use six 2m panels. Choose this for two dogs, or for a dog that needs more space to stretch its legs.
Use the same bar spacing for every panel in your run so the gaps stay even all the way round.
Choosing the right spot
Level ground makes setting up much easier. The ground brackets bolt down, so a hard surface such as concrete or paving gives the firmest fixing. If you're putting the run on grass, many owners lay a paving slab under each fixing point. Look for a spot that gets some shade during the day and isn't somewhere rainwater collects after a downpour. Setting the run close to the house makes it easy to take your dog in and out.
Making the run comfortable
A run on its own is just a fenced space. Add a kennel or covered area so your dog has shelter from the sun and rain. Always leave fresh water, and put down a bed or mat that your dog can lie on off the cold ground. If your dog is a climber or a jumper, keep an eye on them at first. These panels do not come with a roof.
Looking after your panels
Galvanised steel is made to stand up to the British weather. To clean the panels, hose them down or wipe them over. Every few months, check the bolts, brackets and door hinges, and tighten anything that has worked loose.
Delivery and returns
Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses, usually within 3 to 5 working days, with no hidden fees. You can return panels within 30 days if they are unused and in their original packaging. If you change your mind, you pay the return postage. If anything arrives damaged or faulty, contact us and we will put it right at no cost to you.
